I love Summer, I love the heat and humidity, long days, everything about this season makes me feel alive. I know you have all heard me gush over my favorite month, July. The past couple of weeks I have been wondering what is going on? I’m just not feeling it; I’m hitting walls, experiencing frustration, less tolerant in my relationships, arguing with what is… What the heck?
What the heck, indeed, anyone who knows me, knows I am all about what is going on with my energy. It did not take long for me to realize, my Vata/ Pitta nature has been magnified by the Pitta season. Meaning the naturally hot season combined with my airy, fiery constitution had increased my own internal fire, big time, I was becoming a walking 2 alarm! It could easily have gone to 3, so, I am grateful my yoga practice for holding me back.
In the Ayurvedic system of healing and balance there are 3 basic body types, Doshas ,or constitutions, a simple description: Vata (Air and Ether), a thinner build, Pitta (Fire and Water), more athletic, and Kapha (Earth and Water), stout. This system also divides the seasons into Vata, Fall and early Winter, Pitta, Summer, and Kapha, late Winter and early Spring. Most of us are predominately one type with less of the others. Working with our Dosha or constitution and seasonal energy can be interesting. We want to work with what is rather than resist, we need to work with seasonal energies to find our balance. The primary function of Pitta energy is transformation.
Luckily there are many ways to bring ourselves quickly back into balance, to transform energy. Today I am offering a few Bach Remedy choices for common Summer woes. There are 38 Bach Flower Remedies; they can be used both in the moment and for deeper issues. The Remedies work on moods or feelings, so, when making a choice, always look at what you are feeling, now.
Rock Water can be helpful for those who simply have trouble going with the flow, perhaps you find it difficult to break away from your work routine and simply relax on vacation? Tired of a house full of guests, the first few days were fun, however, when are they leaving? Beech can help us be more tolerant of others. Not looking forward to a weekend drive on I-95, slow traffic, too many “bad” drivers, and delays? Impatiens, can restore patience, helping you to calmly cope, you’ll get there. Mimulus, if you are fearful of thunder and lightning, getting stung by a bee, or even sunburn. Mimulus helps us to face our known fears, rationally; you really don’t want to hide inside, do you?
I invite you to take a look at your energetic body, see what’s going on, how are you handling the Summer,Pitta ? I intend to transform my Fire so I can enjoy my favorite month.
